Swimming
Swimming is allowed only in the areas marked by blue and white swim lines and
buoys. Each swim area is 50 yards wides with a maximum depth of 4 feet. There
are a maximum of four swim areas available based on swimmer load. Each swim
area is supervised by professional lifeguards trained in observation and rescue
skills by Jeff Ellis & Associates, Inc.
Programs
Olson Beach will be offering a variety of programs including swim lessons,
community lifeguard class, junior lifeguard class, first aid/CPR/AED classes, and
birthday parties on the beach. Click on the "Programs" button above for details on

Beach Volleyball
There are 3 sand volleyball courts available, with more court to be built as need
arises. Volleyballs are available for rental for $1 with a driver's license, state ID
card, or $5 refundable deposit. For more information about beach volleyball visit

Paddleboat Rentals
Paddleboats are available for rental from the admissions/concessions building.
There are two types of paddleboats. The WB400 can hold a maximum of four
passengers, and the WB202 can hold a maximum of two passengers. The four
person boat is $7.50 for a half hour rental, the two person boat is $5.00 for a half

Concessions
A variety of snack items are served through our admissions building including items
from Good Humor Ice Cream, Coca Cola beverages, Mars/M&Ms brand candy, and
Mrs. Fischers chips.
Events
Olson Lake will be the first leg of the Rock Cut 2007 Triathalon.
Facilities - Olson Beach



Facility & Illinois Health Regulations:
- The beach water is not suitable for drinking. Avoid swallowing beach water.
- Admission to the beach may be refused to all persons having any contagious
disease, infectious conditions such as colds, fever, ringworm, foot infections, skin
lesions, carbuncles, boils, diarrhea, vomiting, inflamed eyes, ear discharges, or
any other condition which has the appearance of being infectious. Persons with
excessive sunburn, abrasions which have not healed, corn plasters, bunion
pads, adhesive tape, rubber bandages, or other bandages of any kind may also
be refused admittance. A person under the influence of alcohol or exhibiting
erratic behavior shall not be permitted in the beach area.
- Littering is prohibited. In addition, no food, drink, gum or tobacco is allowed in the
water. Glass containers are prohibited throughout the beach area.
- All children under the age of 4 years shall wear tight fitting rubber or plastic pants.
- Children under 4 feet tall are required to wear USCG approved lifejackets while in
the swim area, and are encouraged to supervised by a responsible person.
- Personal conduct within the beach must be such that safety is not jeopardized.
Examples of unacceptable conduct include verbal or physical abuse of others,
throwing sand, swimming outside the swim lines, throwing people into the air,
sitting on another's shoulders, and any behavior that in the judgement of facility
management is unsafe.
- Diving in shallow water is not permitted.
- Swimming is prohibited outside of facility hours of noon to 7pm, or when lightning
is present, including a 15 - minute period after the last lightning is observed.
- No pets are permitted in the beach area.
- Feeding of wildlife or other actions that encourage their presence is prohibited.
- Patrons are encouraged to protect themselves from sun exposure.
- Under section 820.300 of the Illinois Public Health Code, lifeguards have the
authority to order any person who does not comply with the rules of the
Department or those of the facility to leave the beach.

Located on R.E. Olson Lake in Rock Cut State Park. Olson Lake is in the Eastern most
portion of the park, on the East side of Northwest Tollway 90. Easily accessible by the South
entrance located on Harlem Road.
